Growth Marketing Manager

New York, United States Full-time

About GiveDirectly

GiveDirectly aims to reshape international giving -  and millions of lives - by allowing donors to provide capital grants directly to the world’s poorest.   The Brookings Institution estimates that $80B of cash transfers would be required to eliminate the poverty gap; the aid sector currently spends 1$40B each year, much of which is spent on evidence-free interventions.  We want to change that, establishing a benchmark as Vanguard did for the financial industry (i.e. index fund), and in the process accelerate the end of extreme poverty.

GiveDirectly has raised over $200M since launching in 2011, delivered cash to more than 100,000 families, and has been celebrated as one of the most innovative non-profit companies by Fast Company. The Guardian writes, “GiveDirectly…has sent shockwaves through the charity sector.” While the New York Times Magazine adds, “the beautiful thing about GiveDirectly’s approach is that it lets people devise their own path out of poverty.” The growing movement toward cash transfers and GiveDirectly’s leading role in the movement have also been featured in This American Life, Foreign Affairs, and The Economist.

We’re looking for exceptional talent to help grow GiveDirectly and the broader movement.  Our culture is honest, direct, analytical, non-hierarchical, fast-paced, transparent, and hard working.  We are open to candidates from any industry and typically recruit from top schools/firms and offer competitive salary and benefits.

Role overview:

As the second hire to GiveDirectly’s Growth team, you will play an integral role in building and scaling GiveDirectly’s retail growth funnel. You will help establish the foundation of our marketing strategy - testing new channels of acquisition and retention, analyzing donor funnel data, and doubling down on tactics that work.  As GiveDirectly’s Growth Manager, you will:

  • Test a range of growth marketing tactics - including referrals, email marketing, SEO, retail partnerships, and more - and then report, iterate, and scale what works.
  • Lead exploration of new platforms, retail partners, or integrations.
  • Build new programs for donor retention and advocacy.
  • Own GiveDirectly’s retail donor CRM strategy.
  • Work with GiveDirectly’s Director of Growth to build strategies to identify and distribute powerful stories from the field.
  • Measure, report, and convey retail donor metrics across the organization.

What we’re looking for:

A skilled generalist excited to have direct impact. You are naturally curious, and have a knack for putting structure to ambiguous problems. You are well-versed in both acquisition and retention tactics. Skills and experience to succeed in this role include:

  • 2 - 5 years of experience in marketing and/or user acquisition, consulting, banking, or similar analytic field
  • Strong background in project management
  • Clear and concise writing, with an ear for tone of voice
  • Knowledge of marketing campaign testing and user attribution
  • Experience in data analysis and Excel
  • Bonus:
    • Experience in Google Analytics
    • Experience in email marketing, personalization, and segmentation
    • Experience in content marketing
