Background

GiveDirectly is a nonprofit that delivers unconditional cash transfers to people in need. We operate around the world, and have now launched in the Bahamas to aid people in recovering from Hurricane Dorian. We are now looking for Field Officers to help us enroll applicants and operate our program in Abaco.

 

Position overview

Field Officers will be able to complete a range of the following tasks:

  • Attend our enrolment and verification events, where they will collect applicants’ personal information via smartphone surveys, and take photos of their identifying documents
  • Reiterate the information given to applicants about the program, and respond to their questions and concerns
  • Translate (where necessary) complex questions and responses between the potential recipients and the Managers/Directors
  • Conduct follow-up appointments for applicants by phone and in-person
  • Conduct other research/logistical tasks where required

 

Logistical details

  • GiveDirectly’s Abaco program will begin February 13 and continue through February. 
  • We expect Field Officers will work 8 hours/day, although the hours will vary, and commit to at least 3 days of work.
  • Field Officers may work primarily in Marsh Harbor, though there may be travel to other communities in Abaco as needed 
  • All Field Officers will attend a (paid) GiveDirectly training session, and will use a GiveDirectly-issued smartphone for data collection

 

Required skills

  • Strong English skills – will need to communicate clearly in English with Mangers/Directors
  • Preferred: French Creole skills 
  • Great communication skills – will explain the program to potential beneficiaries, and answer questions
  • Technical literacy – must use a smartphone to quickly and accurately record recipient details, must be able to use a computer to enter timesheets and expenses 
  • Fast learner – must learn the complexities of our enrolment process, and communicate those to applicants
